When it comes to death. It’s something that we know can be right around the corner. But like every other being on this blue marble, we rarely think about it. We live our lives day by day not knowing when it will end.
When it comes to mourning, there are many methods of dealing with grief. Maybe your circumstances ask you to do something different to show strength to those around you. For Randy Wittman, he managed to stay on point, coaching his Washington Wizards despite learning just hours before that his brother passed.
“Tough day,” said Wittman, who also endured the death of his coaching mentor, Flip Saunders, when he passed away suddenly earlier this season. “But he was here. He watched every game in a La-Z-Boy and he’s up in heaven watching it in a La-Z-Boy.
“Tough day but I’m proud of our guys. They fought tooth and nail for 48 minutes. Not every call went our way. Not every play was executed right but they fought and flew around for 48 minutes and came away with a win. I can’t be more proud of them and proud of my brother.”
These are the moments when you take a minute to think and wonder what you would do. I certainly wouldn’t be in the right mindset, we’ve seen instances where coaches and players take an absence to take care of family matters, but Wittman showed strength and the Wizards won the game.
I and the DefPen family send good wishes to Randy Wittman and his family.
