Millsap’s player option for next season is worth $21.4 million. He’ll likely command a maximum-salary contract in July, with outside teams such as Charlotte, Miami, and the Los Angeles Clippers likely to express a level of interest in him.
Millsap, 32, recently completed his 11th season in the league and his fourth season with the Hawks. In 69 games, he averaged a career-high 18.1 points per game on 44 percent shooting from the field — a career-low.
“It’s been great,” Millsap after the Hawks were eliminated from the Playoffs on Friday. “I’m looking to expand this and see where the franchise can go. These last four years have been great. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
“I’m going to take some time, relax, and see what happens.”
Paul Millsap joins Ersan Ilyasova, Thabo Sefolosha, Jose Calderon, Kris Humphries, Mike Muscala, and Tim Hardaway Jr. (restricted) as free agents from the Hawks.
Millsap has been selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star team in each of his past four seasons.
