Could Pau Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge be the Spurs’ next tandem down low? (Photo: USA Today)
Per K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, Bulls big man Pau Gasol is likely to leave Chicago this summer. His brother, Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol, recently said that he believes that the Spurs would be an ideal fit for Pau. Pau might just agree with his brother. From Spanish newspaper Marca:
Sobre su futuro y “rumorología” Pau Gasol, que acaba contrato con los Bulls, reconoció que “los Spurs serían una opción interesante para mí”.
Or, roughly translated to English using the Spanish that I learned in high school and college:
About his future and “the rumor mill” Pau Gasol, who has a contract with the Bulls, recognized that “The Spurs would be an interesting option for me.”
Gasol will have the option to opt out of his contract this summer, and reportedly plans to do so.
Gasol will turn 36 in July. He won two championships with the Lakers, and now will likely choose a contending team to try to get one or two final rings with. That isn’t to say that Gasol is at the point where he’ll ride the bench and only provide veteran leadership. Few athletes have aged more gracefully than Pau Gasol, who is coming off his 15th NBA season, in which he averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and a pair of blocks per game. He was named to the sixth All-Star game this season. At age 35. That’s pretty damn impressive.
