Fashion’s favorite medium for announcements is definitely Instagram. This weekend, Balmain creative director, Olivier Rousteing, took to the platform to announce that he’s collaborating with NikeLab for the summer. He follows Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci as their newest luxury designer. NikeLab x Olivier Rousteing will be kicking off NikeLab’s Summer of Sport with the collection heavily inspired by football with a high fashion touch. We can expect N98 jackets and four styles of footwear for men and women as well as a reimagined version of the Tiempo 94. Dubbing the collection’s style, “Football Nouveau,” it will be taking athleisure to another level.
In the video posted to the brand’s Instagram, Rousteing explained that he went for a black and gold color palette. “I really wanted to mix black and gold. Black because it is sleek and chic and, at the same time, timeless. And the gold is about victory; it’s about winning.” Everyone is familiar with Rousteing’s edgy and eccentric work. With the way shoppers were clamoring to get their hands on Balmain’s collaboration with H&M last year, this collection will definitely not fall short. NikeLab x Olivier Rousteing is set to release soon on June 2nd at nike.com/nikelab and selection NikeLab locations worldwide.
