These days, Nicki Minaj finds herself scaling back and being relatively quiet. Dominating the scene several months ago due to the extensive campaign that was attached to her third studio album, The Pinkprint, a break was certainly needed as one of Hip-Hop’s biggest forces was undeniably everywhere to be seen. While not out in the forefront, that doesn’t mean Ms. Minaj isn’t working as she covers Nylon Magazine’s April 2016 issue. While channeling her inner model, the boss lady sat down to touch on various topics such as potential marriage to her fellow rapper boyfriend, Meek Mill, her next phase for music, and so much more.
In reference to her fourth studio album: “I needed time to hear myself think again,” she says, “because where I left off with The Pinkprint was a little bit emotionally unstable. I wanted to take a moment to just live my life, enjoy my life, have fun, go out. I think that’s very important before you start writing again. It’s a spiritual experience for the people who are hearing the music, so I’m trying to be very careful of what mental space I’m in while I’m creating it. Now, I want my happiness to be reflected in the new stuff.”
On getting engaged and married to Meek Mill: “He said that my third ring would be my engagement ring. But sometimes he calls me his fiancée, and I’m always trying to stop him, like, ‘Nope! I ain’t got that third ring yet!’ We’re just taking it one step at a time.”
Working toward 10 years in the music industry, Nicki Minaj has proved that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. Keeping busy, the rapper is slated to play The Ticketpro Dome in South Africa to thousands of fans tonight. If you’re interested in more Nicki Minaj, you can check out the full cover story, here.
