Wale may just be the hardest working man in music today. Fresh off of his separation from Atlantic Records, Wale has continued to flood the culture with quality music. Last month, Wale dropped “All-Star Weekend” and “The Weekend Remix”. Last week, he released a four-track EP called It’s Complicated with a feature from Young Money’s Jacquees. Today, Wale continued to apply pressure on the competition with a new video for “Staying Power”. Shot by VIEWALL, the video provides a beautiful visual of the nation’s capital with shots around Northwest Washington, D.C. and the iconic Ben’s Chili Bowl.
Released last month, “Staying Power” features Wale doing what he does best. With quotable lines like, “I tell her to fly, she catch a Delta or she RHO, or she get to steppin’. AKA, I be speaking wreckless,” Wale seems to be more focused than ever before. Wale also dedicated a few lines to his recent break-up with Atlantic Records. At the beginning of the song, Wale raps, “Left Atlantic, ’bout a minute later. Every record label try and scout me.”
There’s no word on whether Wale will continue to be a free agent in today’s rap landscape or if he will look to sign back with a major label as a solo artist. Wale is currently apart of Maybach Music Group as a collective, but he has yet to make any announcements as a solo act.
