For the past couple of weeks Carmelo Anthony has been battling some knee soreness, which I find pretty risky. At his age he can’t afford to play through an injury. If you feel something is wrong, get it looked at extensively and deal with it immediately.
But he’s been lucky enough to only miss a couple of games and now that he’s gotten an MRI, the All-Star break couldn’t have come at a better time. The MRI showed no structural damage, just some inflammation.
Knicks coach Derek Fisher termed the soreness as “inflammation.”
“There’s no injury or new injury in terms of a traumatic or acute situation,” the coach said before the game Friday. “… I think he’ll be fine long term. We just have to get into these next set of days into the [All-Star] break and hopefully we can kind of re-evaluate him from there in terms of it not being something that’s reoccurring.”
“He’s smart and he knows, like tonight, if he can’t physically go out and play then he won’t play,” Fisher said. “If he can play, even if there’s a little bit of soreness, and he still can help his team, then he’s willing to do that.“
Well it clearly isn’t that smart since he’s trying to lead a team that will most likely not make the Playoffs this season. Why test it? You didn’t test it last season, what has changed except you’ve won a few more games this season? Still ain’t making the Playoffs, don’t test it.
