After a hot start to their 2016-17 campaign, the Charlotte Hornets faded hard after the All-Star break, missing the playoffs in the Eastern Conference by five games with a 36-46 record. A lot of their losses came due to a lack of frontcourt production to complement the high-powered scoring ability of point guard Kemba Walker.
Despite their struggles towards the conclusion of the season, they made an effort to acquire some big man talent in the form of Miles Plumlee. The Hornets were able to swing a deal right before the trade deadline in which they sent Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Plumlee.
Now with the offseason underway in Charlotte, Plumlee underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to be out of action for 6-8 weeks according to the official Hornets release:
The Charlotte Hornets announced today that center Miles Plumlee underwent a successful arthroscopic debridement on his right knee. Typical recovery time for Plumlee’s procedure is approximately six to eight weeks.
Plumlee only appeared in 13 games for the Hornets this previous season and played a minimal role in their rotation. He put up season averages of 2.4 points and 3.2 rebounds.
After averaging a strong 8.1 points and 7.8 rebounds in his promising sophomore campaign with the Phoenix Suns, Plumlee has seen his production fall off immensely. Hopefully, the Duke product could sustain a full recovery from this knee surgery and contribute to the Hornets next season.
