After a long absence from TV, Law & Order will be returning to NBC for its next installment ‘Law & Order: Hate Crimes’.
NBC has ordered for a 13-episode season for the special edition of the law and cop show, which will come from longtime executive produced Dick Wolf. NBC announced that the show will be announced on Law & Order SVU which is the series current spin-off of the original.
When asked why the interest in covering Hate Crimes, NBC Co-President of Scripted Programming Lisa Katz spoke about the relevancy of the topic in today’s society (Via CNN):
“Considering that last year there was a double-digit rise in hate crimes in our 10 largest cities — the highest total in over a decade — it seemed like this topic is begging to be explored,” Katz said.”
With everything that is going on both politically and socially in this country, covering this type of crime is seemingly an interesting idea. It can explore the aspects of what some cultures deal with on a day-to-day basis and also shed light on the corruption of Police Departments. New York has had its fair share of ‘hate crime situations’, especially ones that involve Police and if that element can be implemented into the show, it can make it one of the best Law & Order spinoffs to date. The Series stars have not yet been announced and neither has the release date but you should keep your eyes and ears open for an announcement for this show.
