Tyson Chandler is set to be named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year, ending Dwight Howard’s three-year reign. Chandler has rejuvenated the Knicks on the defensive end of the court – flourishing further under Mike Woodson. In just one season New York have gone from 21st in the League in in defensive efficiency (points allowed per 100 possessions) to fifth in the league in that category this season.
Chandler has averaged 11.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in his first season with New York. He becomes the first ever Knick to win the award.
Chandler will receive the award Thursday night prior to Game 3 between the Knicks and Miami Heat.
