The squad from Team USA took a couple of hits before they even got started. Kawhi Leonard withdrew, Blake Griffin withdrew and of course Kevin Durant did.
Now what was different about Durant’s withdrawal compared to the other two. Is that KD left after the gruesome injury that Paul George suffered. Everybody knew that the injury was a catalyst to Durant’s withdrawal. But he never admitted to it.
Until now. The Washington Post has the story that in his upcoming documentary. Kevin Durant talks about his withdrawal from Team USA.
“It took everything out of me seeing that,” Durant later told friend Randy Williams and a Nike executive at his camp of George. “Everything I had to play for Team USA, that injury stripped it away from me.”
If you want another taster on the documentary. Here’s what Kevin Durant said on his amazing MVP speech.
“It was cool to see how moved people were by my speech, but that’s not what I’m here to do,” Durant said early in the film. “I’m in this league to win a championship.”
I honestly can’t wait for the documentary now. If he’s answering questions like these. Who knows what he’ll spill.
