The New York Jets are officially saying goodbye to an end of an era. After a troubling off the field incident, New York has decided to cut ties with their franchise icon Darrelle Revis. Brian Costello of the New York Post broke the story.

Team owner Woody Johnson released as well praising Revis for his time in New York:

“Darrelle Revis is one of the greatest players to ever wear a Jets uniform. His combination of talent, preparation and instincts is rare and helped him become one of the most dominant players of his generation. I appreciate Darrelle’s contributions to this organization and, wherever his career takes him, his home will always be here with the Jets.”

His on the field performance obviously played a factor into this decision as well. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 66th best cornerback in the league a year ago. The Jets will save $9.3 million by releasing Revis but will still owe him $6 million in guaranteed money for the upcoming season.
