JAY Z’s streaming service Tidal is making huge donating to Black Lives Matter and slew of other charities. Coming on the heels of Trayvon Martin’s would-be 21st birthday, the service elected to donate $1.5 million to organizations Opportunity Agenda, Hands Up United, Sankofa, Community in California, Dream Defenders in Florida, Black Youth Project in Illinois, the Baltimore Justice Fund and Empowerment Development Corporation in Maryland, Million Hoodies and the Gathering for Justice League, which is based in New York. If you remember the Tidal X show — that featured Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Jay Z — last year in Brooklyn, it was a charitable event. Now we are seeing that charity in the works. The grants will be administered through the New World Foundation, which funds several civil rights groups and social movements.
Mic reports:
Donations will also be given to organizations created by the families of victims of police brutality, including the Trayvon Martin Foundation, the Michael O.D. Brown We Love Ours Sons and Daughters Foundation and the Oscar Grant Foundation.
