New coach of the Brooklyn Nets Jason Kidd is throwing down the gauntlet with his point guard Deron Williams and expects him to get a double digit assist average next season. Deron Williams averaged 7.7 assists per game last season, his career high was 10.7 in the 08-09 season. That’s quite a drop considering he’s supposed to be in his prime. Here’s what coach Kidd said to the Daily News
I’m going to push him. I want the best for him
He elaborates…
When we sit down and talk about goals, team goals and also individual goals, I’m going to push him and I want to get him back to double-digit assists
Now as we know Williams has had a fair amount of injuries that have hindered his performance, along with Avery Johnson’s unfavourable way of playing and Deron gaining weight it didnt look good but the latter half of last season was a good indication that he might be ready to be back at his best and his best, is the aforementioned double digit assists. Can he do it? I think he can… And so does coach Kidd.
