With the launch of Apple Music’s streaming service in June, from the looks of things, the general public has seem to be very receptive of this new venture. With a matter of clicks, the whole world of music is at your fingertips’ disposal. Among its many perks is the ever so popular Beats 1 radio. Since its initial launch and first listens, Beats 1 appears to cater primarily to the lovers of Hip-Hop. Although the radio stations does play music from a wide range of genres, Hip-Hop came off as being the most dominant. To help provide proof to this theory, Quartz compiled results from early July through August that gives factual weight of which artists are being played the most on the station, along with where each genre stands.
With Hip-Hop clearly being its dominant force, it’s only right that some of Hip-Hop’s finest rank among the radio station’s most played artists. As seen below, Drake, Fetty Wap, A$AP Rocky, and others all rank high among the top artists for Beats 1.
Additionally, Selena Gomez, Kendrick Lamar, and Fetty Wap all make appearances for their top played individual tracks. With Hip-Hop being such a dominant force within Pop culture, it makes perfect sense as to why it’s the driving force behind Beats 1.While there have been complaints, time will only tell if its significant enough to make a shift of the current dominant sound the station.
