The Golden State Warriors have naturally inherited skeptics and doubters since their reign of terror over the NBA begun. One of their trusted critics is Hall of Famer and TNT analyst Charles Barkley, who constantly brings up the vulnerability of teams that rely on making jump shots.
Barkley once commented that Michael Jordan’s 1996 Bulls, who own the 73-win single season record the Warriors are currently chasing, “would kill” this Warriors team. He’s at it again with jabs at the Warriors while visiting The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night. Barkley’s exact words:
“They have a terrific team. They’ve been great for the NBA. And I’m telling you right now. They’re not gonna win the championship this year.”
If you’re watching NBA basketball this season, this guarantee doesn’t have much logic behind it. The Warriors are still the best team by far and Stephen Curry is probably looking at a second consecutive MVP season. There’s a fascinating chance that the Warriors will be tested in the conference playoffs more so than last season, but Barkley’s assertion relies on the Warriors having a cold streak for four out of seven games. No one should be counting on that at this point.
