‘Thor: The Dark World’ had virtually no competition and easily clenches the top spot at the box office this week by pulling in $86.1 million and a whopping $327 million globally. The film had a bigger debut than its predecessor which opened to $65.7 million back in 2011. It was the fourth biggest opening this year and the ninth biggest November opening ever behind three ‘Twilight’ films, four ‘Harry Potter‘ films and the James Bond flick ‘Skyfall’.
In the runner up position is ‘Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa’ which took in $11.3 million. The film is expected to pass the $100 million mark in the coming weeks.
With a lukewarm start, ‘Free Birds‘ holds at number three with $11.2 million and brings its 10-day total to $30.2 million. The birds still have to fly quite a ways until it makes back its $55 million budget.
The geriatric ‘Hangover’ adaptation, ‘Last Vegas’, finished in fourth by bringing in $11.1 million.
Rounding out the top five is ‘Ender’s Game’ which continues to under preform. The $110 million sci-fi flick starring Harrison Ford pulled in $10.3 million and brings its total to a disappointing $44 million.
Expect to see Chris Hemsworth as Thor on top for the next coming weeks until battles his brother Liam Hemsworth in two weeks when ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ is released.
