Big Hero 6 enjoyed great success after its 2014 release, winning an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year. Walt Disney Company has announced that the animated superhero comedy will be making it’s way to Disney XD in 2017. The television series is in production now and will follow the film’s main character, Hiro, in events following the movie.
From Disney’s Worldwide President Gary Marsh:
“Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series — full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob — and Baymax — can deliver.”
Hiro will be joined by his comrades from the film — Honey Lemon, Wasabi, Go Go, and Baymax are all included in the animated television series. Hiro is enrolled at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology where he faces the challenge of establishing himself socially and academically while still performing high-tech hero work in his off time.
The Big Hero 6 TV series is being executive produced by Mark McCorkle, Bob Schooley and Nick Filippi.
