Eulogies of the Firstmost Round
The first round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs has concluded. Eight teams have advanced, hoping to continue their fight to the championship. Eight more were eliminated, their seasons ending abruptly.
Every team gave their all but only eight could advance. The other eight now join the rest of us in watching the end of the season play out from the comfort of their living reasons. The Basketbard, the poet of the hardwood, the playwright of Basketball Nerds, is here to eulogize those we lost in the first round.
Here lie the victims of playoffs, round one.
All things fall apart for eight lowly teams.
The winners doth dance and frolic. Such Fun!
While others doth perish cry out with screams.
The thrice-doubl’d year of Brave Sir Russell,
The triumph of Giannis Antetokounmpo,
Chicago Bulls and their inner-team tussles
Thine seasons? Done, and to thine own dooms, go!
From the Blazers. to Lance, son of Stephen
Christopher Paul, to Grizzlies from Memphis
Who wilt rise up and make the field even?
And who wilt fade to the nothing, abyss?
‘Tis only round one, and only eight linger.
Who goes forth? Who makes fat ladies singers?
