The Soundtrack Drives The Film In The Upcoming Baby Driver.
A new behind the scenes featurette/ trailer for Baby Driver has been released. The featurette goes behind the scenes of the making of Baby Driver and more importantly the music that drives the film.
The video reveals some insight into how the film came to fruition. The film’s star Ansel Elgort explains that the film was actually written around the soundtrack. With Jon Hamm taking that statement one step further by saying that when they got the script it came with a flash drive with the songs that the film was written around on it. The film’s director Edgar Wright continued on with this theme by revealing that the film includes over 35 songs. Film’s with an emphasis on music are nothing new with Guardians of the Galaxy being the most obvious recent example. But, this is perhaps the first time a non-musical has been written exclusively around the soundtrack. Experimentation like this is often missing from mainstream Hollywood releases so it is more than refreshing to see a studio take a risk on such an interesting concept. The film currently holds a 100% fresh rating on rotten tomatoes and is due in theatres on June 28th.
The film’s synopsis is below.
“Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.” Tri Star Pictures
