Onika Maraj, better known under her stage name Nicki Minaj was born on December 8, 1982 in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago but was raised in Queens, New York. After joining “The Hoodstars” she created buzz with her mixtapes Playtime is Over, Sucka Free and most importantly Beam Me Up Scotty. Consequently, Lil Wayne signed Nicki Minaj to Young Money Entertainment and appeared on several songs as a featured artist.

On November 19, 2010 her first solo album Pink Friday was released and sold 375,000 units. Her mainstream pop influenced sophomore album called Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded was published on April 2, 2012 and was certified platinum in June. Her most personal album The Pinkprint was released on December 2014 and brings back her original hip hop influences.
