Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, better known as Katy Perry, was born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California to born again Christians, leading her to visit religious schools and camps. She also was first and foremost exposed to gospel music and planned to pursue a career in this music genre.

At the age of 17 she move to Los Angeles and began finding her interest in other music genres and was signed to Island Def Jam and Columbia but also got dropped. Only when Katy Perry was introduced to producer Dr. Luke and songs like “I Kissed A Girl” and “Hot N Cold” were written, she reached commercial success. In 2008 she released her breakthrough album One of the Boys.

In May 2010, Katy Perry unleashed her next big hit with “California Gurls featuring Snoop Dogg. The song appeared on her album Teenage Dream. In 2013 she released Prism, which featured “Roar”.
