In 1997 2 Chainz, then known as Tity Boi and close friend Dolla Boy formed the duo Playaz Circle, apart from releasing an independent album in 2002 entitled United We Stand, United We Fall and getting signed by Ludacris’ DTP records things we’re relatively quiet for them until 2007 when they started buzzing tremendously from their debut single ‘Duffle Bag Boy featuring Lil Wayne. The album which featured ‘Duffle Bag Boy’ entitled Supply and Demand debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200 list. Their second album Flight 360: The Takeoff was met with generally positive reviews and debuted at number 74 on the Billboard 200.
Shortly after the release of their second album in 2009 Tity Boi reinvented himself and started his solo career as the entity known as 2 Chainz. With his new found moniker 2 Chainz kicked off his solo career with a mixtape entitled T.R.U Realigion which was met with positive reviews in the mixtape circuit. Making waves with the features he did for multiple artists he was building the buzz for his debut solo album Based On a T.R.U Story which was met with mixed reviews from various publications but a hit with the streets. 2 Chainz went on to release B.O.A.T.S. 2: Me Time which received better reviews than his first album. in 2014 2 Chainz released FreeBase an EP with 7 songs and features from ASAP Rocky, Rick Ross, Boosie Badass and others.
2 Chainz is currently working on his label The Real University or T.R.U, which houses artists such as Cap 1, Skooly, and Fresh.
