There’s been much debate as to what Amar’e Stoudemire’s role on the Knicks will be once he returns from injury, most pundits feel that he should come off the bench but that was widely disregarded because of the notion that Amar’e would find it unacceptable. Not so, according to an ESPN.com report which quotes a “source” as saying that the power forward is willing to do whatever it takes for the sake of the team.
“All he cares about right now is helping the team and winning,” said one source, who has been around Stoudemire regularly in recent weeks. “He’d be fine with coming off the bench if that’s what they want. He just wants to win, he sees how well they’re playing and just wants to help. He’ll be fine with whatever they want to do.”
The pairing of Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony has yet to fully mesh on the court as the franchise thought it would, and the Knicks hot start to the season (10-4), has many feeling like Mike Woodson would be wary of breaking up a good thing when Amar’e returns. Woodson says that’s a decision he’ll make in due time.
“I’m going to address that when we get to that point,” Woodson said last week. “Right now, I’m just taking it a day at a time and work the guys we have in uniform.”
