Another chance to have a piece of history and greatness in your sneaker collection, the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Banned’ is making a return. Yes, the ‘Bred’ 1’s have released a few times before as well as the ‘Banned’ variation back in 2011 but for this year the release should be more wide range. Back in 2011 from May to July, Jordan Brand opted to sell this sneaker through Nike Outlets as opposed to being sold at retailers.
If you don’t know the backstory to the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Bred’ which led to the ‘Banned’ colorway it stems all the way back to when MJ first debuted the shoes which were then banned by the NBA and David Stern. With doing so Michael Jordan was fined $5,000 for each time he wore the sneakers but Nike decided to use this as a marketing tool and of course covered the fines for him.
Returning in 2016 is a big deal for many considering the remaster program Jordan Brand is currently doing bringing quality material to their product. So imagine what the material for these will look like, think Shattered Backboard and UNC. News that the Bred 1’s returning broke some time ago but now that it is known the ‘Banned’ version will be dropping comes as a surprise.
Set to drop this September 3, 2016 for the retail price of $160 you can expect for these to fly off retailers shelves.
UPDATE: With the unveiling of the Air Jordan 31 (XXX1) ‘Banned’ the folks at Jordan Brand have issued official pictures of the of the 2016 Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Banned’.
