The 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend is fast approaching but the league is already looking forward to the event years down the road.
In his press conference before the NBA’s Global Games match between the Pacers and Nuggets in London, commissioner Adam Silver made a little bit of news in that regard.
Silver mentioned that the NBA is looking into bringing the All-Star game to Indianapolis in 2020 or 2021, calling it “highly likely” that Indy gets the annual showcase sometime soon.
This is obviously great news for Pacers fans and Indianapolis. All-Star Weekend brings tons of venue for the cities that host it with so much media and so many fans visiting.
Indianapolis hasn’t hosted an All-Star game since 1985 at the Hoosier Dome. For a state known to be crazed about basketball at all levels, that’s an incredibly long time.
The next scheduled All-Star games are to be set in New Orleans (2017) and Los Angeles (2018). The NBA is hoping to return to Charlotte in 2019 after removing this year’s event due to the state’s discriminatory laws towards transgender people.
Nothing is set in stone, of course; Cleveland has been rumored as a spot for the 2020 ASG and Sacramento is reportedly pitching the league as well. But from Adam Silver’s comments it appears as though Indianapolis is a priority for the NBA moving forward.
